Lead theft is often associated with churches, and for good reason – these historic buildings are prime targets due to their often-extensive lead roofs. However, it’s crucial to remember that any building with lead features is vulnerable. Why is lead stolen?

A recent example of the real-world impact of lead theft was in July 2024 when thieves stripped lead from the roof of the building occupied by Paul’s Place a charity which supports vulnerable adults with disabilities. This act led to ceilings coming down as the inside of the building flooded.
Described as “heartbreaking” by the charity, and with costs for roof repairs alone over £6,000 the impact on the charity’s ability to support their clients has been enormous.
