The site
Torre Abbey is Torbay’s most historic building. An ancient scheduled monument dating back to 1196 and set within 18 acres of garden and parkland. Owned by Torbay Council it is also a museum housing an impressive art collection.

The problem
A programme of building restoration works has resulted in the buildings being scaffolded. This has led to attempts to climb the scaffolding. Rough sleepers, opportunist vandals and thieves have also tried to access the museum and its valuable artefacts.
How Ace Defence helped.
Working with restoration contractors Corbel we installed a system with sixteen cameras. This covers all possible points of access and protects both the buildings and their contents and those who are trying to climb the scaffolding, with a high chance of injury.

The Outcome
On a maintenance visit at Christmas 2023, Torre Abbey’s Museum Manager told us that she was very happy with the protection afforded by Ace Defence’s systems, and that vandalism and intrusions had dropped to negligible levels since its installation.
Steve says…
This is one of our largest installations and shows that security can be inconspicuous and effective. Heritage buildings are especially vulnerable when undergoing restoration work and we are happy to play our pat part in protecting them.
